Principal's Discretionary Scholarships

Helping Students Achieve Their Goals
At Oxley, we understand that extracurricular pursuits require significant time and financial investment. To support students in achieving their goals and potential, at the Principal's discretion, the College may offer a scholarship to reduce tuition fees.
The Principal's Discretionary Scholarships differs from the Oxley Academic Scholarship in that academics is not the is not the primary criterion. Instead, it recognises excellence in a specific field. Recipients will still be expected to demonstrate strengths in academic studies.
Scholarship Candidacy
In addition to demonstrated exceptional ability in the field of their choice, an Oxley Principal's Discretionary Scholarship candidate will:
- reflect the values of the College, embracing Truth, Goodness and Beauty.
- act as a role model at all times.
- demonstrate strength in academic studies.
- use their talents to the best of their ability and provide support and encouragement to other Oxley students.
- demonstrate leadership skills (where applicable) and actively take on new challenges.
- contribute positively to the House Program and the Oxley Horizons Program.
Sports
Principal's Discretionary Scholarships may be awarded to candidates who excel in the field of Sport.
The ideal candidate:
- performs at an exceptional level in an EISM sport and depending on the specific sport, competing at a representative, State or National Level.
- demonstrates a commitment to the sporting program at Oxley including EISM and carnivals when selected.
Sports in which Oxley actively competes are prioritised for the Principal's Discretionary Scholarship, these sports are Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Cross Country, Hockey, Netball, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Table Tennis, and Volleyball.
Consideration may be given to other sports such as other team sports, tennis, gymnastics, martial arts, or para athletics.
The Arts
Principal's Discretionary Scholarships may be awarded to candidates who excel in one or more areas of the Arts.
The ideal candidate:
- demonstrates excellence in Instrumental Music, Composition, Theatre, Dance or Visual Arts.
- is dedicated to and engages in rehearsals, performances, gallery nights or leadership roles.
- will contribute to the Arts program at Oxley demonstrating active involvement in showcases and other performances.
Candidates may also demonstrate their calibre through public awards, performances or exhibits. Candidates may be required to audition as part of the interview stage.
Other
The Principal may at his discretion offer Academic Scholarships outside of the timeframe and process of the Oxley Academic Scholarship Program. The Principal may at his discretion offer other scholarships for extraordinary personal contributions to the College or Community.
Portfolio Submission
To be considered for a Scholarship, candidates must submit a portfolio. Candidates can submit this portfolio in any format, for example, a written essay, visual diary, or collation of works.
The portfolio must respond to the following themes:
- Living out Christian Values in everyday life
- Demonstrated excellence in their field of choice
- Engagement in school life both inside and outside of the classroom
- Balancing academics and extracurricular activities
- Future goals and how a Scholarship will help achieve them
During interview we may explore these themes. We encourage students to reflect on their portfolio and prepare independently, as we value authentic responses that come from the heart.
Submission Documents
You may submit your documents in person addressed to the Personal Assistant to the Principal or digitally to prinsec@oxley.vic.edu.au
Required:
- Scholarship Cover Sheet
- Portfolio
- Most recent NAPLAN results (Prospective students)
- Most recent Semester Reports (Prospective students)
- Details of extracurricular involvement
- Details of any leadership roles
- Demonstrated exceptional ability or contribution
Timeline
1. Put Together Portfolio
All students must submit a Coversheet, and portfolio including their response to the scholarship criteria, as well as demonstration of their exceptional ability, including any leadership or competition results.
2. Apply
You may apply at any time of the year. Please note that submissions over school holidays may not be acknowledged until school resumes.
4. Student Interview
If your child is shortlisted, they will be invited to attend an interview with the Principal.
5. Recommendation to Principal
Depending on the outcome of the Interview, your child may be offered a scholarship by the Principal who will decide the Scholarship percentage allowance awarded.
6. Notification and Acceptance
You will be notified of the outcome of your scholarship application within 1 month of interview. You must accept the offer within 5 business days.
For non-current Oxley students, parents will then be required to complete the online enrolment process.
