In another highly competitive year of Inter-House sporting competition, this year each house has won at least one competition. Gibeon Warriors (Red house) won the Swimming and Year 12 Final Day Competitions, with Tabor Trojans (White house) winning the Athletics and Zion Crusaders (Blue house) the Cross Country.
The second and third places varied with each competition. With 3 points allocated for a 1st place, 2 for 2nd place and 1 point for 3rd place for each competition, Red and White came out equal on 8 points. Therefore, the actual number of points won over the four competitions had to be compared.
One house obtained 2472 points and the other gained 100 points more over the year, scoring 2572 points.
Congratulations to the Inter-House Champion for 2009 – Tabor Trojans (White House)!!
Australian research shows that 96 percent of kids under the age of 17 have tried alcohol, with 21 percent drinking weekly. New research has shown that alcohol causes irreparable damage to the growing brain. It kills the part of the brain responsible for relaying messages between cells. One third of 12-17yr old drinkers are consuming at harmful levels. It indicates kids have easy access to alcohol and are drinking too much.
In most Australian states and territories, it is still legal for anyone to provide children with alcohol on private property, without their parent or guardian’s permission.

Liberal Victory!
Last week the Year 9 area was transformed into a colourful political arena. Each of the four Home Groups became political parties and spent two days making badges, writing speeches, decorating the party rooms, producing press releases and propaganda and campaigning to the staff and the Year 5 students. The Year 9 students hosted the staff at a special morning tea, where the students impressed the ‘swinging’ voters with their knowledge about their party’s policies over delicious refreshments.
The program culminated with the staff and students voting for their choice of political party overseen by the Australian Electoral Office. Rooms S8 and S9 became an electoral centre, complete with voting booths and ballot papers. After the secret preferential votes were tallied, the Liberal Party (Home Group 9.21) gained office via a third preference count. Congratulations to all Year 9 students for their enthusiastic and excellent participation in this program.
